Following reports that it might unveil new Surface devices later this month, it looks like Microsoft has finally confirmed an upcoming event scheduled later this month, which covers both hardware and software products. The company did give a tiny preview of which products it will be unveiling, via a teaser page on its website:

Advancing the new era of work with Copilot.

Tune in here for the latest in scaling AI in your environment with Copilot, Windows, and Surface.

It was previously reported that the company is preparing to launch new Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 hardware, aimed at business and commercial customers. Additionally, it’s expected that the new devices might only feature minor spec bumps for the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 commercial models, although a “larger redesign” is expected for the consumer models of both devices, which includes a new OLED display for the consumer-grade model of the Surface Pro 10.

With that in mind, it’s safe to say that we can probably expect new Surface products to appear once Microsoft holds its event, which will be streamed on March 21, 2024 at 9:00am PDT.

The Samsung Galaxy Book 4 is one of the most powerful Windows laptops you can buy today. This is especially true for the Ultra model that has a dedicated GPU and a beautiful AMOLED touchscreen display. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come cheap. That’s the bad news. The good news is that Samsung has a deal for the Galaxy Book 4 that will let you save big.

From now until the 1st of April, Samsung is running a laptop promotion for the Galaxy Book 4. This deal will let you save up to $1,020 on the laptop, plus you’ll also be getting a free portable 2TB SSD in the process! Keep in mind that this deal is a combination of trade-in and the value of the free SSD.

Buy On Samsung.com

Customers can get up to $800 in trade-in value for their older devices, whether it be a PC, phone, or tablet. The 2TB SSD itself is valued at over $200, so when combined, you’ll essentially be saving $1,020. It’s not a bad deal, especially if you get the full amount, you’ll be shaving half off the price of the Galaxy Book 4 Ultra.

Microsoft’s Surface series of tablets and computers have been some of the most eye-catching Windows-powered consumer devices available on the market, and have played a part in establishing Microsoft’s status beyond software development – with that said, it’s been a while since the last big Surface product launch, although that might all change soon.

More specifically, it’s rumored that Microsoft might launch new Surface devices later this month, as noted by the folks over at The Verge. According to an anonymous source, the company is preparing to launch new Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 hardware, aimed at business and commercial customers. The rumored launch is expected to take place on March 21st.

As such, the new devices might only feature minor spec bumps for the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 commercial models, although a “larger redesign” is expected for the consumer models of both devices, which includes a new OLED display for the consumer-grade model of the Surface Pro 10. Of course at this point anything is possible given that nothing has been officially announced yet, but a new Surface refresh is most welcome especially for fans of the device line.

In other Microsoft-related news, the company recently announced that it will soon deprecate its Windows Subsystem for Android, which enabled Windows 11 to run Android apps.

You can soon use your Android phone as a webcam on Windows 11 https://phandroid.com/2024/03/01/you-can-soon-use-your-android-phone-as-a-webcam-on-windows-11/ https://phandroid.com/2024/03/01/you-can-soon-use-your-android-phone-as-a-webcam-on-windows-11/#respond Fri, 01 Mar 2024 09:37:52 +0000 https://phandroid.com/?p=329075 Microsoft has started to test a new Windows 11 feature that allows Android users to use their phones as a webcam.

The post You can soon use your Android phone as a webcam on Windows 11 appeared first on Phandroid.

]]>
Pretty much all laptops come with built-in webcams these days. Even if you work from a desktop, there’s a chance you might own a webcam anyway. Unfortunately, unless you’ve invested in a high-end webcam, most webcams tend to have pretty lousy video quality. This is why if you’re an Android user, you’ll want to keep an eye out for an upcoming Windows 11 update that will enhance your webcam experience significantly.

Microsoft has announced that they have started to roll out a Windows 11 for Windows Insiders. As part of this update, it will allow users to use their Android phones on Windows 11 as a webcam. You can choose to use your phone’s cameras, front or back, as your webcam of choice.

There are a couple of pre-requisites though. Firstly, you’ll need to ensure that your phone is running on Android 9.0 or higher. Secondly, you’ll need to make sure that you have the latest version of the Link to Windows app. Other than that, if you have both, you’re good to go. Note that this update is rolling out to Windows Insiders first. If you’re not part of the program, you’ll have to wait for the public release.

The idea of using your phone as a webcam for your computer isn’t new. But some of these solutions aren’t particularly elegant. For instance, some solutions require downloading and paying for third-party apps. Other solutions, like Samsung, will require you to own a Samsung laptop and Samsung phone. If you don’t, then too bad. At least with this update, Microsoft is making it a bit more brand agnostic.

Phandroid Best of MWC 2024 https://phandroid.com/2024/02/27/phandroid-best-of-mwc-2024/ https://phandroid.com/2024/02/27/phandroid-best-of-mwc-2024/#respond Wed, 28 Feb 2024 00:31:54 +0000 https://phandroid.com/?p=328824 MWC 2024 has introduced a bunch of new devices and gadgets, so here are some of our favorites that we’ve found so far!

The post Phandroid Best of MWC 2024 appeared first on Phandroid.

]]>
Unlike CES, MWC tends to be more focused on mobile devices. This year, many companies attended the event where they showed off upcoming new smartphones, tablets, and wearables. Some also showed off some interesting and futuristic concepts of what the future of mobile could look like. Below are some of what we consider to be the best of MWC 2024.

Honor Magic 6 Pro

The Honor Magic 6 Pro is a new flagship smartphone by Honor. Unsurprisingly, the company has decided to introduce a bunch of AI features to the handset. One of which is eye-tracking. This allows users to control their phone using their eyes only, which is great for hands-free use and also for accessibility. As a flagship, it comes with the latest and greatest hardware so Samsung should expect some competition here.

Xiaomi 14 Ultra

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra is another flagship phone that was announced at MWC. It is clear that Xiaomi is focusing heavily on the phone’s photography capabilities. It features the company’s ongoing partnership with Leica. The phone comes with a quad camera setup that includes a 50MP main, a 50MP telephoto, a 50MP periscope, and a 50MP ultrawide. Xiaomi is also selling an additional photography kit that adds a dedicated grip and an extra battery pack.

Lenovo Transparent Laptop

Lenovo’s Project Crystal is possibly one of the coolest and best gadgets of MWC or 2024 so far. It is currently a concept, but it features a transparent display and a touchscreen for a keyboard. We’re not sure about the practical uses of such a laptop, but as far as tech innovation is concerned, it is pretty cool. Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be any plans to release it, but who knows, maybe one day they will.

Tecno Pocket Go

Apple made headlines with the launch of the Vision Pro headset earlier this year. Tecno looks like they might be trying to take Apple on with the Pocket Go. This is a handheld Windows PC which when paired with the accompanying smart glasses, allows users to pretty much take their computing needs wherever they go. It might seem a bit more “low-tech” since it still relies on physical controls, but it does make it look less awkward to use.

OnePlus Watch 2

The first OnePlus Watch was a bit of a disappointment, but it looks like OnePlus has managed to fix its mistakes with the OnePlus Watch 2. The new smartwatch comes with a 1.43-inch AMOLED display with a sapphire glass. The body is made from stainless steel, giving it a premium look and finish. It runs on Google’s Wear OS 4 platform so if you’re locked into the Google ecosystem, this is a fantastic smartwatch you could consider.

Samsung Galaxy Ring

The Samsung Galaxy Ring was teased at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event at the start of the year. The company officially showed off the actual product at MWC. This is Samsung’s next wearable where it will be an alternative to a smartwatch, or even a companion if you don’t mind wearing two devices. There is no word on a launch date yet, but the rumors are claiming that we might be able to expect it this July.

Motorola Adaptive Display

Motorola showed off a flexible display smartphone at Lenovo Tech World 2023, and they brought the actual device to MWC 2024. This is another concept phone where the device can be bent and worn around the wrist. Flexible display tech isn’t new, but flexible components are. Once again, Motorola does not seem to have any plans to make this phone a reality, so it’s just something cool we can only look at for now.

Nubia Flip 5G

Foldable phones are expensive, but this is something Nubia is hoping to correct. The company launched the Flip 5G at MWC where it is priced starting at $599. It is not the most powerful foldable phone in the market right now. It’s powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset, but if you’re more keen on the form factor rather than performance, this could be a phone to look forward to.

BlackView Hero 10

BlackView is known for their rugged phones and tablets and power stations, but they recently got into foldables with the Hero 10 smartphone. It comes with the Helio G99 chipset and is accompanied by 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Its foldable display measures 6.9-inches and on the front, the external circular display is 1.3-inches. The Hero 10 also packs a pretty decent 108MP main shooter accompanied by an 8MP ultrawide, with a 32MP selfie cam to top things off.

Oppo AR Glass 3

While MWC is generally about mobile, companies still like to use the event to showcase what kind of products they are working on. In Oppo’s case, they have taken the wraps off the Oppo Air Glass 3. These are a pair of AI smart glasses and are the follow up to the Air Glass 2 from 2022. The new version comes with AI via Oppo’s AndesGPT model. One added advantage to this is that instead of reaching for your phone, you can access the AI directly from these glasses which is pretty cool.

In addition to its flagship phone announcement during MWC 2024, Honor also announced the arrival of the MagicBook Pro 16, its latest Windows laptop. As with a lot of new tech today, it does pack AI software as well, in addition to the usual hardware features found in Honor’s laptops.

READ: The Honor Magic 6 Pro makes its global debut

Up front you’ll find a 16-inch display with a resolution of 3072 x 1920 pixels, 100% DCI-P3, and 100% sRGB wide color gamut support. The laptop also provides an ultra-responsive and fluid gaming experience thanks to a smooth 165Hz refresh rate.

Inside, the Honor MagicBook Pro 16 runs on an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor 155H, which features six performance cores, eight efficient cores, and two low-power efficient cores. There’s also a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 series Laptop GPU which should be able to handle most gaming and graphics-intensive tasks.

As mentioned, the laptop features several new AI features which include Smart Picture Search, Smart Document Summary, Text Comprehension, AI Subtitle, and Magic Text, which does make productivity a bit easier.

In terms of pricing, Honor hasn’t specified an exact amount yet – the MagicBook 16 Pro will be launched initially in China, with a global release scheduled later for Q2 2024.

Motorola takes on Apple’s ecosystem with Smart Connect https://phandroid.com/2024/02/27/motorola-takes-on-apples-ecosystem-with-smart-connect/ https://phandroid.com/2024/02/27/motorola-takes-on-apples-ecosystem-with-smart-connect/#respond Tue, 27 Feb 2024 12:25:49 +0000 https://phandroid.com/?p=328815 Lenovo and Motorola have announced Smart Connect, a way to unify phones and computers together in a seamless manner.

The post Motorola takes on Apple’s ecosystem with Smart Connect appeared first on Phandroid.

]]>
If you’re in the Apple ecosystem, moving from your iPhone to iPad or Mac computer and back again is relatively quick and painless. With iCloud, all your data is synced including your messages, calendar events, emails, and so on. But if you’re using Android on a Windows PC, that becomes trickier. This is something Motorola is looking to solve with Smart Connect.

This is a new software system developed by Lenovo and Motorola. The idea is that it will help unify our devices together to create what they call a “multi-device experience”. This means that as long as all your devices are connected to the same network, the ecosystem is already up and running.

Users can use their mouse and keyboard to control multiple devices. Users can also share files, stream videos from one device to another, and more. Some useful productivity features include a smart clipboard. This lets users copy an item from one device and paste it in another. There’s also a webcam feature that lets users use their phones as their PC’s webcam.

Before you get too excited, note that Smart Connect will only work with Lenovo tablets and PCs as well as Motorola phones. For those using a different brand, you’re out of luck. That being said, Lenovo and Motorola aren’t alone in trying to establish their own ecosystem. Samsung has something similar as well, and we expect that more companies will head down this path.

The post Tecno takes on the Apple Vision Pro with the AR Pocket Vision appeared first on Phandroid.

]]>
The Apple Vision Pro is probably one of the most talked-about gadgets of 2024 so far. It is expensive but based on the reviews, Apple has delivered what they promised. It is a far cry from becoming mainstream, but it looks like Tecno is getting into the game as well. At MWC 2024, Tecno has unveiled their own take with the AR Pocket Vision.

The Tecno AR Pocket Vision is a combo device. It is meant to be paired with the Pocket Go. The Pocket Vision itself is a pair of augmented reality glasses. It features a six-axis gyroscope and an algorithm powered by AI that helps determine head movements. There is also a 0.71-inch micro OLED screen that apparently matches the angle of a 215-inch TV when viewed six meters away.

It also paired with the Pocket Go, a handheld Windows-powered device. When paired with the Tecno Smart Box, it basically transforms the entire setup in a computer system. In a way it’s similar to Apple’s approach with the Vision Pro, except that the Vision Pro can be used standalone without pairing it with a phone or computer.

It’s actually a very interesting concept but unfortunately, Tecno stopped short of mentioning how much it would cost or when it would become available.

The post Lenovo unveils the second-gen ThinkPad X12 Detachable appeared first on Phandroid.

]]>
Tablets and laptops are designed to be mobile and portable devices. Some might prefer a laptop over a tablet and vice versa, although both have their share of pros and cons. But what if you could have both? That’s what Lenovo is trying to solve with the ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 2.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 2 is a laptop-tablet hybrid computer. While some hybrids involve a keyboard that can be folded to the back, the ThinkPad X12 Detachable adopts a similar design as the Microsoft Surface where the keyboard can be detached from the computer.

This gives users the option of using it entirely as a tablet minus the weight and bulk of a keyboard, or using it as a laptop if they want to type up long documents or emails. Under the hood, the device is powered by the latest-generation Intel Core Ultra U series processor. It has a 12.3-inch WUXGA display and can be configured with up to 32GB of LPDDR5x RAM. It can also go up to 1TB of PCIe Gen4x4 SSD storage.

The laptop is also catered towards working professionals, thanks to its optional CAT16 4G WWAN support. This means that users can use 4G connectivity instead of relying on WiFi to go online. There is a built-in 5MP camera on the front for video calls, and an 8MP camera on the back if you need to take photos.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 2 will be available this April and is priced starting at $1,399.

The post Lenovo has a clear vision for the future…a transparent display laptop appeared first on Phandroid.

]]>
Laptops are pretty boring. They’re functional, but otherwise kind of boring. The overall design hasn’t really changed much over the years, but Lenovo is challenging that status quo with its latest concept. At MWC 2024, the company unveiled the Lenovo Project Crystal, a laptop with a completely transparent display.

We actually heard about this device a couple of weeks ago, and it looks like the company has finally taken the wraps off it. What’s the point of Lenovo creating a transparent display laptop, you might ask? The laptop actually comes with a camera on the back of the laptop which Lenovo says could be potentially used for augmented reality. It can also be used to help identify objects.

Designers might also find it useful as they can overlay a schematic over the actual object. The display itself is made with a microLED panel. The laptop also ditches the traditional physical keyboard for a touch-based one. We get that this helps with the whole sci-fi look, but honestly typing long documents on a touchscreen is kind of tedious.

Before you get too excited, the Project Crystal is currently a proof-of-concept. There are no plans to actually turn it into an actual product. It was made to display the use of microLED displays and AI integration. Maybe one day we’ll see such laptops hit the market. For now it’s just a really cool piece of tech.

Samsung’s wide range of hardware products knows no bounds – from smartphones to tablets and PCs, the South Korean tech giant has all bases covered. With that in mind, Samsung announced that it will be bringing the Galaxy Book4 series to more markets worldwide starting on February 26.

The laptop range was initially announced for Korean markets back in January 2024, although users in France, Germany, the United Kingdom and United States will be able to get their hands on one once it launches. TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics comments:

“We’re excited for users to experience the intelligence, connectivity and productivity made possible by the Galaxy Book4 series, taking our premium PC lineup to the next level… The Galaxy Book4 series delivers the powerful performance and multi-device connectivity that consumers expect from a high-performance PC in today’s market.”

In terms of hardware, there’s a base model of the Book4 Ultra which packs a setup consisting of a 14th Generation Intel Core Ultra 7 CPU, 16GB RAM, and 512GB SSD, although buyers can opt for a more powerful model. Other details include a 16-inch touch-enabled screen, which features a Dynamic AMOLED display with a 2,880 x 1,800 pixel resolution, a 16:10 aspect ratio, 400 nits of brightness, as well as a 48-120Hz variable refresh rate.

Samsung has also equipped the Galaxy Book4 with AI features, as with the rest of its flagship smartphone lineup.

We are reaching the end of February. February isn’t really known as a time for sales, but in case you’re shopping for a genuine lifetime key of Windows 10, Windows 11, or Microsoft Office, then you’re in luck.

They are offering some pretty insane discounts for Windows 10, Windows 11, and Microsoft Office. For example, you can actually grab a genuine lifetime license for Windows 10/11 for only $15!

This is a fraction of the price compared to what Microsoft is offering on their website! Microsoft Office is also heavily discounted where you can get a copy for $75.01. Not as cheap as Windows, but still a fantastic deal if we ever saw one.

OEM vs Retail license

Like we said, the prices offered by VIP-SCDkey are way, way cheaper compared to what Microsoft is selling directly through its website and retailers. This is because VIP-SCDkey are selling OEM licenses, whereas the ones you buy from Microsoft and their partners are considered retail licenses.

Is there a difference apart from price? Yes!

OEM licenses are licenses of software, such as Windows or Office, that are usually sold to computer manufacturers. This is because OEMs like Dell, ASUS, HP, and so on manufacture millions of PCs and laptops every year. Buying and installing retail licenses of Windows and/or Office would simply be too expensive for them.

As a result, Microsoft sells these companies OEM licenses that are cheaper. They are still 100% genuine, but there are some drawbacks. These licenses are usually linked to your PC’s motherboard. This means that if you want to reinstall it on a different computer, it would be close to impossible.

However, an OEM copy of Windows or Office from VIP-SCDkey is cheap enough where you could buy multiple copies and still save yourself a lot of money.

How to buy and install your OEM copy of Windows

 1. Click on any of VIP-SCDKey’s links above
 2. On the product page, click on the Buy Now button to add it to your cart
 3. Before you submit and pay for your order, make sure you enter the skpha coupon code in the coupon text field to apply an additional 30% savings
 4. Click on Submit Order
 5. Choose your method of payment and key in the payment details
 6. When the transaction successfully goes through, you should receive your Windows or Office OEM license in the same email address you provided
 7. Now on your computer, click the Start Menu and go to Settings
 8. Select Update & Security
 9. Click Activate Windows or Change Product Key
 10. Enter the license code that you just received in your email and you should now have a genuinely activated version of Windows on your computer

There’s really not much that companies can do when it comes to laptop designs. Sure, they can choose new and interesting materials or stick a bunch of LEDs in it, but that’s really all there is. Or is there? It seems that Lenovo could have something amazing to show off at MWC 2024 in the form of a transparent laptop.

A post on X by reputable leakster Evan Blass has revealed a transparent laptop concept that Lenovo is apparently working on. This device could make its debut at MWC 2024. Whether or not it will actually be manufactured and sold in the market is a different story, but damn that is pretty cool.

The renders show a laptop form factor with a completely transparent display. It also features a touchscreen where the physical keyboard should be. It also appears to be using a virtual keyboard. The transparent display is pretty awesome, but the virtual keyboard not so much. We’d still much rather have a physical keyboard given the choice, but this is merely a concept.

As for how practical such a laptop is, that’s hard to say. Lenovo has a history of launching some wacky and cool concepts in the past, so this doesn’t come as a surprise. Just don’t get your hopes up at owning one of these laptops in the near future.
