A while back, we got word that Capcom’s Monster Hunter Stories – an Android port of a 3DS game – will soon make its way to the Nintendo Switch. While Capcom didn’t give an exact date as to when we can expect the game to debut on Nintendo’s console, the company finally confirmed the game’s release date for consoles.

As such, the remastered version of Monster Hunter Stories will arrive on June 14th, and will be available as a digital purchase, although players can opt for a physical copy. The game will also be available as part of the “Monster Hunter Stories Collection,” which will also feature Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin.

Aside from the Nintendo Switch, the game will be available on Steam and PlayStation as well (sorry, Microsoft).

A spin-off title of the main Monster Hunter series, MH Stories features a different take on Capcom’s MH universe, and incorporates turn-based combat as well as monster collecting in addition to a new story-driven solo campaign. The game was first released on the Nintendo 3DS back in 2016, and later on mobile devices in 2017.

The post Google shows they’re taking mobile gaming serious with these Google Play updates appeared first on Phandroid.

]]>
Mobile gaming is a very lucrative industry. As we spend more time on our phones, developers and publishers are starting to focus more on mobile titles to pull in more gamers and make more money. To that end, during the Google for Games Developer Summit, the company has announced that they will be making some updates to Google Play that will enhance the overall mobile gaming experience.

One of those changes will be to Google Play Pass. For those unfamiliar, Play Pass is a subscription service that allows users to access a ton of games without ads or in-app purchases. If you hate pay-to-win kind of games, Play Pass is something you should check out.

To make Play Pass even more tempting, Google has announced that subscribers in select markets will receive in-game items for free for select titles, as well as receive discounts on other mobile games they might want to purchase.

Google is also making it easier for users to discover ongoing promotions. There will be YouTube videos in the Games tab in the Play Store where you’ll see videos for the latest and popular games so you’ll always be up to date on what’s hot. There are also changes being made to how users can sign into their games and save their progress.

The onus will be on developers to implement these alternative sign-in options, but if they do, users will have more choices when it comes to their preferred sign-in method. It will also save your progress and achievements so you can pick up where you left off no matter which device you’re signed in from.

Last but not least, it seems that Google is also turning their attention to PC games. Google Play Games will now support native PC games. This means that if you’re on your PC, you’ll be able to discover games that are created specifically for PCs.

Following the recent shutdown of Switch emulator Yuzu, it looks like Nintendo’s relentless legal manoeuvring has left a lasting impression on the emulation community, especially with app developers. Davide Berra, developer of the “Pizza” series emulators has announced that he will be taking down his apps on Google Play, which allowed users to play retro Gameboy and Gameboy Advance games. In a statement made online, he comments:

“Dear Friends and supporters, after seven incredible years of development and adventures with my apps, I have made the difficult decision to remove them permanently from the Play Store. My family comes first, and for this reason, I have chosen to prioritise my family over the development of my apps. I want to thank each and every one of you for your incredible support over the years. Your words of encouragement, feedback, and constant support have been a source of inspiration for me and my work. Thank you again for everything. You have been fantastic. With gratitude, Davide.”

Berra cites that his family now comes as his main focus, resulting in the removal of his emulation apps on Google Play. Given how ruthless Nintendo is when it comes to emulation, we can’t say we blame him; just days ago, DraStic emulator developer Exophase announced that he will soon be removing his app from Google Play as well.

Following the demise of Nintendo system emulators Yuzu and Citra, it looks like other emulation apps on Android are starting to take precautionary steps so as not to invoke the wrath of the Big N’s legal department, or so it would seem. In any case, it looks like DS emulator DraStic is now free to download over at Google Play, foregoing its usual $4.99 price tag.

In an official Discord post, app developer Exophase clarifies that DraStic will soon be taken down as well, and that the decision had been long coming. As per his post:

“I just changed the app on GPlay to free. I don’t intend to even have it on there for that much longer but I want to make it clear that I don’t have any kind of financial incentive to not opening the source. Releasing the source in short order is something I fully intend on doing.”

“This change can’t be undone, so that’s it. I was already planning on this a while ago so it’s not simply due to the Nintendo stuff, that just made the whole process more urgent which I guess is a good thing because I’m terrible at doing things.”

As mentioned, Nintendo’s legal actions against Yuzu devs Tropic Haze played a part in the current state of things for DraStic, although Exophase states that he will release the source code for the emulator some time in the future.

One of the things you’ve got to love about Android is that it isn’t quite as restrictive compared to iOS, which means that developers can get creative with their apps and the things that they can make their Android phones do.

Now, if you love the Nintendo Switch but don’t want to bring it with you all the time, you might be interested to learn that there is a new Switch emulator available for Android called Yuzu. Yuzu is not the first Switch emulator to launch on Android. Prior to this, there was another emulator called Skyline Emulator that was in development, but it was ultimately cancelled as the developers expressed their concern over potential legal risks.

For now, Yuzu appears to be forging ahead with their plans, but it should be noted that the emulator is currently in early access release, which means that there might be bugs and issues that haven’t been sorted out yet. Also, there might be some compatibility issues although the developers claim that users will need to own a device with at least a Snapdragon 865 or newer and a minimum of 8GB of RAM.

Also, there might be glitches with the graphics for some games, as XDA noted when they tested Animal Crossing New Horizons. Either way, if you’re looking for a way to play Switch games on your Android phone, Yuzu could be an emulator worth checking out.

Following a lawsuit initiated by Nintendo against Tropic Haze – the makers of Android Switch emulator Yuzu – it looks like the two parties have now come to an agreement regarding Nintendo’s legal claims and accusations. Tropic Haze has agreed to pay Nintendo a sum of $2.4 million in damages, according to new court documents showing the settlement.

This isn’t the only term that Nintendo wants fulfilled, however – the Japanese gaming giant also wants to prevent Tropic Haze from promoting Yuzu (and its corresponding source codes) moving forward, as well as preventing Tropic Haze personnel from working on any projects with the intent of bypassing Nintendo’s technical protection on its products.

Additionally, Tropic Haze is demanded to hand over its website domain as well as other Yuzu-related information to Nintendo.

It looks like the videogame industry just can’t catch a break – following a massive wave of layoffs from several gaming studios in the past month, Electronic Arts recently announced that it will be cutting 5% of its workforce, which amounts to around 670 jobs. The announcement was made by CEO Andrew Wilson in a memo originally shared to employees. Part of his statement reads:

“… we are streamlining our company operations to deliver deeper, more connected experiences for fans everywhere that build community, shape culture, and grow fandom.”

“In this time of change, we expect these decisions to impact approximately 5 percent of our workforce. I understand this will create uncertainty and be challenging for many who have worked with such dedication and passion and have made important contributions to our company. While not every team will be impacted, this is the hardest part of these changes, and we have deeply considered every option to try and limit impacts to our teams.”

As beloved as Nintendo is among its fans and the general gaming community, the Japanese entertainment giant doesn’t play around when it comes to protecting its intellectual property, keeping an iron grip around its hardware and software products whenever it can. With that in mind, the company recently filed a lawsuit against the makers of “Yuzu,” a Nintendo Switch emulation software.

The lawsuit was filed against Tropic Haze (the group that’s responsible for Yuzu), which is headed by a person known as “Bunnei” who is believed to be in charge of development of the emulator. The contents of the lawsuit have been posted online, and can be viewed here.

That being said, Nintendo is pushing for the court to shutdown the emulator, and to sue for damages. While emulation apps in themselves aren’t illegal per se, Nintendo says that most ROM download sites point people toward Yuzu in order to play their software copies. Part of Nintendo’s lawsuit reads:

“With Yuzu in hand, nothing stops a user from obtaining and playing unlawfulcopies of virtually any game made for the Nintendo Switch, all without paying a dime to Nintendo or to any of the hundreds of other game developers and publishers making and sellinggames for the Nintendo Switch. In effect, Yuzu turns general computing devices into tools formassive intellectual property infringement of Nintendo and others’ copyrighted works”

Nintendo also alleges that the availability of Yuzu allowed people to play the Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in advance, nearly half a month before the game’s actual release date, in effect impacting the overall sales of the game.
