There is no denying that over the past few years, Huawei has managed to shake its reputation for creating cheap/budget Android handsets, to creating extremely powerful flagship smartphones that have given both Apple and Samsung a run for their money. In fact, Huawei even managed to overthrow both companies to take the number one spot as the world’s largest handset vendor.

Unfortunately, Huawei’s road to success has since been cut short were due to a trade war between the US and China, the US government has placed Huawei on the Entity List which prevents US companies from doing business with them. This includes Google which means that Huawei cannot use Google’s products or services on their smartphones.

As a result, Huawei’s smartphones since the Mate 30 have been shipping without Google Play Services installed. Thankfully, there is a way to fix that and if you own a Huawei phone or plan to buy one, then this method should get Google Play Services installed on your Huawei phone.

Install Google Play Services on your Huawei phone using Googlefier

Previously, it was possible to install Google’s apps and services on your Huawei smartphone, but the process can take quite a while and might feel a bit daunting to those who aren’t too tech-savvy, but thanks to the work of XDA Developers forum member bender_007, he has developed an app called Googlefier that will help simplify the overall process, and here’s what you need to do.

Before you get started, you might want to consider factory resetting your phone and wipe it back to a brand new state. This is because there might be existing apps or settings that could interfere with the process that could lower your chances of getting this up and running successfully.

You are of course welcome to try it with your phone as it is right now, but if it doesn’t work, then maybe you might want to look into a factory reset. You will also want to make sure your phone is backed up and all your important files are stored elsewhere in the event something goes wrong. Now that we got that out off the way, let’s start.

Download and install the Googlefier app
Launch Googlefier
Grant the app the permissions it requires
Follow the instructions on the screen
The app will then replace the existing backup app and restore LZPlay
Sign into your Google account when prompted
You’re done!

It should be noted that Googlefier does not work on Huawei smartphones with EMUI 11 or newer, so if you have a device that has EMUI 11, then maybe you might want to consider downgrading to EMUI 10 or older for it to work. Other than that, you should be pretty much all set.

Different brands including Google, Samsung, Xiaomi and more have started to bring over Android 14 for their respective devices – this of course includes Sony, which has also commenced with the Android 14 roll-out for its smartphones.

As such, maybe you own an Xperia device, and are wondering as to whether or not your smartphone is able to receive the Android 14 update. With that in mind, we’ve prepared this quick and handy guide which lists some features that you can expect from Android 14, if and when it arrives on your phone.

Android 14 for Xperia

With the launch of Android 14, Sony has brought over several new and useful features to select Xperia devices, which add a bit of much-welcome functionality for users. Sony’s approach to Android is mostly clean, without the added weight of custom skins, apps, and such unlike what you’d see on phones from Samsung, Oppo, and more. Sony’s Official Android Update Policy

We wish we could say the same for Sony, whose software support for its phones (at least at the time of writing) only involves two years of Android OS upgrades, with three years of security updates.

When will my Xperia Phone be updated to Android 14?

At the moment, Sony’s 2022 series have receive the update for Android 14, meaning that Xperia 1/5/10 IV will be compatible with the current version of Android, according to Sony. The company’s 2023 devices consisting of the Xperia 1/5/10 V have started receiving Android 14 as well.

We Pit the Nothing Phone 2a’s Cameras Against the Pixel 7a

The Nothing Phone 2a is the newest kid on the block, and it boasts a ton of great features such as a large and vibrant display, a huge 5,000 mAh capacity battery, as well as Nothing’s signature Glyph Interface hardware design on the back. With that in mind, Nothing says that the 2a also comes with a capable photo and video setup, thanks to a combination of hardware and software components.

Given the Phone 2a’s $350 starting price, it makes it an ideal competitor to the Google Pixel 7a, another midrange phone that boasts robust imaging capabilities. Both phones have some key differences, but given how good most smartphone cameras are nowadays, we couldn’t help but put these two to the test.

Key Differences

Both phones come with three cameras all over – the Pixel 7a features a 64MP main sensor in addition to a 13MP ultrawide sensor and 13MP front camera, while the Nothing Phone 2a packs 50MP main and ultrawide sensors, in addition to a 32MP front camera.

It’s clear that the 2a has the 7a beat in terms of hardware, particularly when it comes to megapixel count. However, Google’s computational photography does allow the 7a to take amazing-looking photos, thanks to well-optimized image processing software.

That’s not to say that the Phone 2a doesn’t have anything of the sort – according to Nothing, the Phone 2a comes with the company’s own “TrueLens Engine” which uses computational algorithms including Ultra XDR, which interestingly has been co-developed with Google.
