How to increase touch sensitivity on Pixel 7a for screen protectors

0

Google’s Pixel A-series of affordable smartphones received a new member last week. The Pixel 7a is the newest cheapest Pixel you can get in the market as it succeeds last year’s Pixel 6a. The product design is undoubtedly the same as the current-gen Pixel 7 series. It also has a number of changes that make it worth upgrading.

The display panel is unchanged except for one major change. The Pixel 7a sports a 6.1-inch Full HD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) OLED punch-hole display with HDR and 90Hz refresh rate. The under-display fingerprint scanner is still here but it may start to act finicky once you apply a screen protector, especially a tempered glass.

You may notice the under-display fingerprint scanner performance is not up to the mark. It ends up being a hit-and-miss where the latter is a more likely occurrence. But there is a feature within the system settings that could help you in this situation.

Increase touch sensitivity on Pixel 7a

  1. Visit Settings on your Pixel 7a smartphone.
  2. Look for Display settings and tap the option.
  3. Scroll down until you see the Screen Protector Mode option.
  4. Turn on the toggle for the option to enable it.

This is an option that increases the touch sensitivity of the display. It improves touch when using a screen protector. In theory, it should result in more “hits” than “misses” while trying to unlock the Pixel 7a using the under-display fingerprint scanner.

Additionally, we suggest you update Pixel 7a software to the latest available version. Google keeps releasing regular software updates that bring various improvements and bug fixes. You can check for updates by visiting Settings > System > System update on your phone.
